PDO Thread Lift

PDO Thread Lift is a procedure that employs temporary barbed threads made of surgical suture material to subtly lift surrounding tissue on the face and body. Once anchored, the threads can remodel the fat pads of the mid-face and can lift the dermis giving the face and body a more youthful appearance. These threads are absorbable by the body and after 4-6 weeks of placement, degradation of the thread is initiated by the body’s immune response and as a byproduct, new collagen forms.

Patients that choose to undergo a PDO thread lift in Beverly Hills will see an immediate improvement of sagging skin in the face and neck, however it takes about 4 weeks to appreciate maximum efficacy as swelling may occur post treatment. Over time, the skin will gradually look firmer, plumper, and younger over time due to the collagen regeneration. To maintain the best results this procedure may be repeated in 6-12 months.

WHAT IS THREAD LIFTING AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Although Thread Lift was first developed in the 1980s, thread lifting has since evolved with new advances in technology and quality of threads, leading to a resurgence in popularity as a minimally invasive rejuvenation procedure. Thread lifting can be considered a “bridge” between the two ends of the treatment spectrum, offering an exciting option for patients who want more than noninvasive fillers but are not quite ready for surgery yet.

At WAVE Plastic Surgery, we use safe, FDA approved threads made of polydioxanone (PDO) which is a safe, absorbable synthetic polymer that has been long used as a suture material for cardiac surgery.

PDO Thread Lift FAQs

Why Choose Thread Lift?

The use of PDO threads can have a revitalizing effect on the skin. The threading procedure targets crow’s feet and smile lines on the face as well as sagging skin around the jowls. This fast, noninvasive procedure is the ideal option for reversing the impacts of time on the face. Once complete, a thread lift can tighten saggy skin and provide you with a more youthful appearance.

The PDO threads that we use are designed to be absorbed into the skin to promote the natural production of collagen and elastin. Both of these proteins are vital for keeping the skin tight, smooth, and vibrant.

Is Thread Lift a Permanent Solution?

The results of a Thread Lift can last for up to a year or two with proper healing and recovery. While you may notice some immediate results shortly after the Thread Lift procedure is performed, the real difference will be recognizable in roughly three to four weeks as the body starts to produce more collagen. You should see even further improvements over the next three to four months.

But each client is different. These are average estimates and your personal skin enhancement results may vary. A personalized treatment plan will be developed for the client to ensure that all of your skin rejuvenating objectives are met on a timeline that fits for you. Some touch-up treatments may be necessary to reach the full desired effect.

How long is the Thread Lift procedure?

This can vary from one client to the next based on the extent of work needed to achieve desired results. But the average length of the procedure can run as little as 45 minutes to as long as 75 minutes. Discussing your concerns with one of our specialists during the consultation can help to better determine how long your treatment might take.

Are You a Good Candidate for Thread Lift?

All of our clients must meet a set of specific criteria by which we determine whether or not an individual is a good candidate for this procedure.

The client should meet or exceed the following conditions:

  • Demonstrate a significant level of sagging in the middle of the face
  • Demonstrate fine lines and wrinkles in the facial skin
  • Exhibit a reasonable expectation towards cosmetic improvement
  • Express a desire to improve the appearance of the skin through nonsurgical means
  • Prove that he or she has a good medical history and is currently in good health

Although this is a noninvasive cosmetic procedure, we must first determine that you can safely receive a Thread Lift and that it is a procedure to best deliver the desired results.

Where Can a Thread Lift Be Beneficial?

A Thread Lift treatment can be applied to many different regions of the face. Our clients have typically had this procedure performed at the brow, the jawline, the cheeks, the neck to eliminate Crow’s feet, smile lines, and other distinguishing wrinkles. A preliminary consultation will help us understand where the problems lie and how a Thread Lift can solve them.

Is the Thread Lift Procedure Painful?

The procedure is noninvasive but the threading does penetrate multiple layers beneath the skin. Before the work begins, a local anesthetic will be administered so you won’t feel any pain or discomfort during the Thread Lift procedure.

Post-procedure Recovery and Healing

Since the Thread Lift procedure is minimally invasive, the recovery time is a short-term concern. There is no need to skip a day of work or school after a Thread Lift, you can resume normal activities immediately. You might notice some light bruising and swelling for a day or two after the procedure is performed.

The most important thing to keep in mind is to limit the movement in your face for the first week or two after the procedure. Refrain from touching your face and avoid smoking and drinking as this could slow down the healing process. You want to be careful not to break or dislodge the thread so keep your face relaxed and don’t tense up your forehead or purse your lips.

You should sleep with your head upright for at least a few days as this will help to prevent you from rolling over and sleeping face down. This could result in a broken or dislodged thread.
